BIOSHOCK

Is this old classic still good?

BIOSHOCK is a first person shooter set within the underwater world of Rapture, a civilisation that allows the inhabitants to be free from law and governments which was built by Andrew Ryan (one of the main antagonists of the game. The story follows a survivor of a plane crash who stumbles across a light house in the middle of the ocean which is actually a gateway which accesses the way into rapture. The protagonist is then set with the aim of surviving through the twisted city which has turned into a nightmare through a substance called ADAM, a blue liquid that allows for the population of rapture to gain powers such as electricity and fire which can be used against enemies through the players play though of the game.

This game originally came out in 2007 and was created by the team at Irrational Games which was disbanded after the release of the third game in that franchise. It was commercially and critically acclaimed due to its fascinating story and world. One of the main enemy types within this game are known as Big Daddy’s which are monsters in a diving suit that were originally designed to fix the city is there were leaks or cracks so buildings don’t get flooded but instead were turned into frightening enemies companied by little girls who are rich in the substance ADAM. The player can engage in combat with these duos in order to gain ADAM to unlock for powers and upgrade their characters.

The things that I like about this game is the atmosphere as the game classes as part of the horror genre as well as the action genre so there are dimly lit corridors and terrifying enemies which will attack you as soon as they see you. Another thing that a like about this game is that your character is able to use a selection of weapons and superpowers in order to kill enemies and get through the story. These powers range from an electric bolts to fire to a swarm of killer bees that surround your targets.
