Be the Batman in the first entry of the Arkham Trilogy.
Arkham Asylum is a Batman game set within the confines of the Arkham Asylum mental hospital which follows the story of Batman bringing in the Joker to be locked up there which then turns into the Joker taking full control of the Asylum. From that point onwards, Batman is then faced with going up against his rogues gallery and stopping the joker before he does more damage then he has already done. This game came out in 2008 and was the first Batman game to be praised for its engaging story and its new and inventive combat system that allows the player to feel like the caped crusader. The combat system comprises of multiple buttons which the player can use to takedown thugs scattered throughout the asylum as well as takedown his menacing foes from The Scarecrow to Bane to Poison Ivy. The counter button allows the player to block incoming attacks from enemies by pressing Triangle on PlayStation controllers or Y on Xbox controllers, The player will know when to press this button as when Batman is about to be attacked, lightning bolts will appear above the enemies heads. To attack enemies and damage them, the player is to press Square on PlayStation or X on Xbox and this throws a punch or a kick to the enemies. Once the player is comfortable with these buttons, they can use them simultaneously in order to become and feel like the Batman who in the comics is know for superior martial arts skills.
The story is about twelve hours long, even longer when looking for collectibles, and goes to different parts of the facilities to take out Batmans rogues and take back control of the Asylum so that the Joker can’t cause any more casualties or set off the bombs that he has around Gotham. The main premise of the game is that a doctor at the hospital, Dr Young, has created a formula that increases a persons mass and strength but in return turns them into a monster so the Joker has taken control of the facility to gain the Titan formula so that he can poison Gotham with it however ill leave it to you to play the game to find out the rest of the story.
The game won a ton of rewards when it was released for being one of the best superhero games made for its time and was beaten by its successor, Arkham city which follows Batman being kidnapped and put into a new super max prison built in the heart of Gotham city to allow the prisoners to kill each other and also allow for the supervillains to have their own grip on each district of Arkham City.
